FEB. 26, 2011 ~ THE BOATMEN * RANDY'S RETURN

Randy has been away for a month training with his beautiful lab Willow, so these guys haven't played together in alittle while but you know what The Boatmen are back with 'Avengence' because last nite right from the start was SPOT ON... vocally & musically!

Started off with alittle Jackie Greene (Ball n Chain) Durm nailed it! Then we got alittle True Blood followed with I shall be released, Tom Petty, Beatles, Stuck in the middle with you, You got lucky babe, Come together, Got me a woman, Use me up, Weezer (sweater), Creepin' round sprinkled with a original from their new CD which Mullins asked Randy when it's comin out Randy replies when it comes out. Just when I thought My god how can this get any better... it does Boatmen started to Pre-game for Floydfest (yes they got in) with alittle Festie style Magic Carpet Ride with Mullins & Durm singing. As I look around the crowd I notice every body is loving it (the sisters in particular) as they wuz backin' dat ass up and Shakin' what their mama gave em! Made me smile and laugh out loud. The Boatmens harmony last nite was I beleive the best I've ever heard, the music from their instruments flowed. It was a celebration indeed on many levels.. We celebrate Randys return, we embrace Willow, and Beckley Embraced the return of the Boatmen! The Boatmen are the REASON I do what I do... support, video, blog. True story....I love you!

FEB, 26, 2011 BRADLEY JENKINS * THE LOST PARROT

Bradley Jenkins from Huntington, Wv opened up for the Boatmen and it was the perfect fit. I've only seen Brad once before as all of us had that attended the Anne Cline benefit several weeks ago. When he first opened his mouth to sing I said it then I'm saying it now... 'Old soul'. I told this to Brad and he informed me that is how he feels about himself. Well Mr. Jenkins it sure show's. You have talent and a beautiful voice! Bradley played Matt Mullins guitar for the evening he threw out some originals Cold, Ellie Mae as well as covered a few favorites Beatles, Jack Johnson, Plastic Jesus, So Sally can wait, Wagon wheel, Angel from Montgomery (which he said he had never played out before) no worries Brad... you kicked it's ass even threw out alittle Rap song bout West Virginia. Bradley is my gem, my diamond I love this guy and will support him, plug him, book him, video him. Brad's passion for what he does is strong and he's excited to start this journey, I'm excited for him as well and will help him out all that I can. Vids will follow.

FEB 25, 2011 ~ FLETCHERS GROVE * FOSTERS

Fletchers Grove is :

 Ryan Krofcheck (rhythm guitar/vocals)
Matt Marion (percussion/vocals)
Wes Hager (lead guitar/flute)
Taylor Pratt (bass)
Adam Greene (drums)
“Fletchers Grove is a two-drummer-based, Garcia approved jam band that filters its tunes through a melodic dead-fed roots blend that is nothing but peaceful, easy festival feelings in the ears.”
This band has been making its way into the scene ever since 2006. With their eclectic roots, Fletcher's Grove combines tight vocal harmonies, with a soulful-jamming-jazz-influenced guitar duo, backed up by a slapping bass, and a driving drum ensemble. Fletcher’s Grove is merging the classic sounds of the 60’s with rudiments of funk fusion, and a little jazz flute into a high energy sound that keeps groovin’. Giving the younger crowed a beat to get down to while reminding the older crowed of those classic sound. Fletchers Grove brought it to Beckley... and Beckley loved it. Dance floor stayed full and peeps even helped load out when they were done. If you came and listened and you'd like more info on Fletchers Grove here's the web site. Embrace Fletchers Grove.....

FEB 24 ~ BENEFIT FOR JK TYREE * THE LOST PARROT.

First off would like to shout out to Michelle Treadway for putting this benefit together. It was a HUGE success made over $700 before 8pm and 'before' the music & auction  began! One more shout out as well to The Lost Parrot ~ if you wan't to throw a successful benefit for some one in need this is the place to do it. I've not missed one single one yet and every one has helped to raise a ton of money for good cause's.

First up on stage is Mike Snodgrass (from Cinnamon Sensation) ~ Mike warms everone up with some (and I quote) 'sexy music'.. (You are the best thing.) Snodgrass break's out his new Harp on several songs (Stand by me), kick's it old school w/ (Just my imagination), Cover from Carl Barkley (correct me if I'm wrong here Mike), Down by the River did a brand new song from 2nd. cd (Hold on) loved it! Rob Gross (from The Boatmen) steps up on stage now. Now Mike & Rob used to gig together as The Mike & Rob experience sounded good then.... Harmonize well together now. Threw out some It takes two, Every day, I'm so tired finished up with Billie Jean. Rob Gross' vocals are spot on! This man is most usually found behind a kit or bangin' out his Bongo's backing up with those golden pipes of his. Rob Gross' vocals are just that 'Golden' and I enjoyed every bit of it. Snodgrass finishes up his set with a Introduction for John Puckett and tells everyone to stick around to be Wowed..

Up next on stage John Puckett from Beckley, wv now living in Tn. Puckett starts off with saying this is a celebration for JK Tyree to celebrate his seeing another birthday.... Happy Birthday JK. Now Mike Snodgrass said we we're gonna be WOWed by John Puckett and boy did he hit the nail on the head with that one!  John Puckett (one man show) as I tagged him with just the first song. I noticed right off the bat the variety of instruments he has surrounded himself with. I also notice how quickly & smoothly he switches from one to the other with little to no effort at all. First song ( Love everybody) changes up from acoustic guitar to bass (which i might add is a real jewel ) both visually pleasing as well as ear candy, then to bongos and back to his acoustic. All in one song , all with ease, all smooth like butta'... I hear Matt Mullins yell from the crowd "Turn it up"... Puckett says request granted. Holy Batshit Robin this man is my Gem of the nite!! John Puckett did several original's which i love One day at a time, Won't give up, Wastin' time and a Temptation cover (Papa was a rollin' stone) that kicked ass! I am totally diggin' this upbeat Reggae vibe Puckett's got going on. Puckett has 3 cd's out and needless to say I bought them all. Note to self ~ friend on facebook and follow this man Crazy fuckin' good vibe & muse.. I dig. I'd also be curious to see if he's ever heard of Mishka if not I'd like to turn him on.

Up next IHAJ~
IHAJ brought the Rock to da house like they always do with their high energy & shreddin' skillz. Jason Lockart was sporting his brand new clear custom guitar and man did he make that baby SING... No doubt Dawsons & Lockarts ability to feed off one another musically it's a Rock N Roll show every time w/ Wiseman on kit & Pruitt on bass make's for the complete package. Jason Dawson says... We came all the way up here from Florida for JK Tyree and man that gives me partial wood! :)  They covered a variety of songs got to Sex on Fire and the crowd goes fuckin' wild! This band may be young in age but have Seasoned Electric Souls that feed from each other, the crowd eats it, feeds on it, lives for it, makes love to it. Yea I said makes love to it.. i notice the ladies this time as well as many other times in the past seem to get all 'Horned' up while watchin' them play. Course the guys dig that shiz too make's for a good nite all the way around ~ wink*wink.

Finish the evening w/ my boyz ~ THE BOATMEN
With John Puckett sitting in on Jason Lockart's clear custom. All I can say here is Oh My God again.... begins the set with an original One time man, Got you where I want you (Lockart joins in with this one) love, love, love it. Tyrone (Rob Gross) sings it with Jevon stepping in. Lockart on lead, Mulli on Rhythm, Durn bangin' his bass. Kicked out some True blood, Friends in low places, Citizen Cope, Soul Shine, with a variety on originals from the second cd. Puckett steps up and takes Lockarts rockin' clear axe and make's that baby wail... Matt Mullins barefoot and preachin' to the choir with his song and the choir 'Embraces' ..... This nite was such a great nite in more ways than one. Auctioned off all items , raised alot of money for jk, and heard some old favorite songs as well as some new ones.

To sum this evening up..... Sum Beach where's the damn 'Rewind' button I wanna do THAT again!~

Vids will follow ~ however did not get to 'Capture' the entire nite as the floor was jammed packed and i had no where to set up. I have a love/hate relationship with this sceanario.. I love it (cuz i can dance)... I hate it (cuz i document it).

FEB 22, 2011 ~ JONATHAN SNEED & MATT MULLINS * GUMBOS

Not sure where to start here first off no vid's will follow, freakin' video camera failed... But you know what I felt as if they played for me. Now I know they didn't as they're was other peeps there but just trying to put ya'll in my head for a minute or three. First thing I notice is this Sneed's screw on capo (never seen one before) but I like it. Seem's to work better, tighter, with alittle more dependability. Plus the fact it's pretty damn cool looking and fits this Seasoned guitar player well. Second thing I notice is this Sneed (now this is just my ramblin' blog) and don't mean a damn thing but my thoughts but he seem's to keep time with his mouth (his teeth in particular) I've seen this before and for a minute or three I see Mullins do it sorta keepin' time w/ him in his mouth. Which leads me to my third assumption.... funny how musican's feed off one another in one form or another. I like that, I like being witness to it.. make's me smile. Also I love the setting of Gumbo's it's small and intimate and there is no need for mics, or amps and it's perfect to me. Mullins & Sneed started out with 40 dogs w/ Mulli singing  it like he owned  and Sneed kicked right in like he had played it for years. Mullins spit out several originals all of which (I'm not sure if Jonathan had heard before) but played them like he had . Some of which were I cry for you, If it dont matter to you, Move like a jelly fish (song that nobody knows), Long Black Veil, Randy Owen song~ (the one thing that you don't wanna do is get raging drunk and profess your love for Randy Owens.. might not get that love back) ain't sayin' who said that out loud! :) Citzen Cope (which I love~ son's gonna rise) except this time Mulli free styled a bit and threw in Uncle Snippy tid bits to Sweet Potatoe pie to whatever comes to mind at the moment, I love that about Matt then found his place and got back to son's gonna rise.... Love it when he flow's his shiz...  To sum it up I enjoyed it.. all of it. Sorry I don't have vid's to follow up.
Wanna give a Special shout out to Jonathan Sneed for putting this acoustic Tuesday together at Gumbo's. I've been twice now and yea Ima comin' back!

Tuesday nite at Gumbo's in Fayetteville at 6:30..... GIT CHA' SUM!

FEB 19, 2011 STUART HILL BAND * FOSTERS

Second 1/2 of my nite I spent at Fosters watching Stuart Hill and a host of musican's that gathered for one HELLUVA nite of music! Before I start let me mention who all graced Fosters stage last nite:

Stuart Hill ~ Lead & vocals
Chuck Wiseman ~ Drums
Washboard Dave (Dave Thomas) ~ Washboard & Bongo & Kazoo (from Blvd. Tavern)
Paul Greco (PJ) ~ Bass (from Blvd. Tavern)
JV Flannigan ~ acoustic guitar
John Price ~ guitar
Jason Mitchell ~ acoustic guitar & vocals
Now within 3 hours this band was thrown together with a group of Seasoned musican's that was a nite to remember....
Heard everything from Superstition, SRV, Pinball Wizard, Wagon Wheel that bled right into Country Roads, Ain't no rest for the wicked to fuckin' Journey (forever yours) yes I said it, I heard it... and yea I hate to admit it or even say it out loud.. I loved it!
This was a nite when you start one song bleed it into another song get back to the original song and finish it with a entirely different song.... and sounded good! With this much talent on the stage how can it be any thing less. From Hill's "fast & furious" fingers to Dave's CrAzY mad skillz on his board (by the way left my note book on the table to film for a minute) and when I got back  some one had written in it this~ "Dave Thomas makes playing a washboard sexy!" Waay to go Thomas.. you sexy Mofo you. ; )
to PJ's bangin' & poppin' bass, Wiseman's givin' his kit a workout,Flannigan & Mitchell (yes Jason played acoustic) never seen him do he says I'll probably never see it again. Well we'll see bout that mister (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). To sum up the evening the crowd dug the shit outta it and so did I man... Good times!  I'm constantly BLOWN away of the amount of Talent that these Hills we call home hold. When I trade the Mountains for the Sea I'm truely gonna miss each and every one of you, as I know I'll never come close to being this close to this much talent again. Vid's will follow
p.s Vids will more than likely not be of a steady hand... cuz I damn sure could not hold still.. my feets was happy!

FEB 19, 2011 ~ NATANIEL GOOD & THE BOOTS* THE LOST PARROT

Begun my evening by going to The Lost Parrot to catch Nataniel Good & the Boots. Didn't see any Boots but what I did see is a butt load of pedals right off the bat. Nataniel Good was on stage playing solo now I'm not sure if the Boots got up on stage after I left but all I can say bout Nataniel Good is I liked what I heard. Nataniel did U ain't so wrong (not sure of the title) but loved the song, Ryan Adams (Pick me up), Is that alright with you, I don't get respect (again unsure of title here), Tightrope (original by Nataniel Good). I would love to see this guy perform with a acoustic. Loved his vocals, loved his guitar, loved his playing. Nataniel Good I am a fan and will come see you again!

FEB 11, 2011 ~ MATT JONES (acoustic) * HOOTERS / JASON MITCHELL (acoustic) * THE LOST PARROT / BARE ESSENTIALS (acoustic) * FOSTERS

Listened to 3 different bands last nite ~ all of which happen to be acoustic, It was a wonderful acoustic evening for me filled with great musican's that filled the nite's air with perfect harmony.
Begun the nite by venturing out to Hooters and listening to Matt Jones, 3 piece band that consisted of Matt Jones, Joe Dew (the enigma), Dale Chappell (master of the Cajon box). This was a real treat as actually my entire nite was filled with treat's and hidden treasure's. It is rare that I get to hear Joe Dew play acoustic guitar or even see him out and about. Last nite was one of those nites... and it was well worth the wait! The harmony between Chappell & Jones was music to my ears. Every time I hear Matt Jones sing I'm in awe... man can this man sing. Only got to stay for a couple songs but from what I heard was a perfect beginning to what was going to be a perfect nite. I loved it! For more information on Matt Jones or booking info. go to The Gig Gal friend her and she'll hook ya' up.

Second 1/2 of my nite: The Lost Parrot w/ Jason Mitchell * Stuart Hill * Tom Nord. I was excited about seeing these guys again, I'd seen the acoustic version once before and fell in love all over again with it last nite. Mitchell threw out every thing from I hit the ground running (Keith Urban), Pickin' Wildflowers ( Keith Anderson). Summer come around (Keith Urban), Nobodys lookin' right now (Keith Sweat), Alice in Chains (Man in the box), Stone Temple Pilots, Champagne (Mitchell original). All I can say here after listening to these guys was Daaaayum.... Jason Mitchell & Stuart Hill together harmonizing was once again perfect. Tom Nord on kit rounded out the sound. The vid's will speak for themselves.... push play.

Finished up the evening at Fosters with Bare Essentials (minus a essential) Mike Mitchell you were missed. Up on stage was Chuck Andrews, Chuck Wiseman, Josh Bibb, John Ashley. More acoustic... more goodness! Heard every thing from Twisted sister, Pink Floyd, Good time Charlie,Bob Dylan, Beatles, Wilson Pickett, Lou Reed, Tom Petty along with a host of originals some even from Scott Gilger (who graced the stage) with Old man, Ain't gotta go, Neil Young, Long black veil. Now I knew Gilger could play but what I didn't know is that he could sing.... and has several original songs that I got to hear that was very good. To sum up the evening it was one to be remembered. Finished the nite up sitting round the kitchen table with 5 musican's & lots of long time friends grinnin' , singin' & lots of pickin' into the wee hours ... Hell I even beat on the congas for a couple. By this time unfortunately my video camera was full and I was unable to capture the Icing on this nite's cake.... However saved by Yulanda's cell phone I did get to film.... Vid's pending...

FEB. 5, 2011 ~ THE EMPTY GLASS W/ SOUL MTN. & 600 LBS. OF SIN

Soul Mountain ~
Bill Galloway ~ Drums
Lead vocals & guitar ~ Chris Sutton
Bass ~ Jim Brandm (if I've misspelled this let me know I'll correct)
3 piece tight ass band ~ Psychedelic soul with a Bluesy sound is the best way I can describe Soul Mountain.
The first thing I notice is Chris Sutton's guitar.. Flying V head stock (never have seen one before) Love it and boys does he make that V sing.
I heard them do some covers along with some originals (which I always love) every thing from : Elevator Blues, Carry me home, How many more times ( Sutton broke out a slide on this one), Magic Boy, Bad Habits, 17 Guitar (which Chris & James wrote). John Chickogee (from Diablo Blues) stepped up on stage with Harp in hand and added to this wonderful Bluesy mix. With Chris Sutton's strong vocals, Bill's right on time beat & Jim's bangin' bass I was in Blues heaven. I was diggin' it & so was the crowd. While on break a musican told me something that I already knew... He said for him music should be like a sensual almost sexual experience when it's good. Well BG I concur and have known this for years. For me by the end of the nite, I left feelin' very satisfied & craving more... guess you could say job well done!
P.s I might add sitting (while filming) on that big ass speaker by the ladies room sorta helped too! ~ devilish smile. ;-)

Up Next my Fav's... 600 Lbs. of sin~
600 warmed up with alittle Marley (Don't worry), Can't tell me who to love, Room with a view, Tidal Wave, Severine (which I might add I love when they do this) Pushkin's vocals are like no one else's I've heard. T.J King's original (Feels so good), Fleetwood Mac (Shatter your illusions), 29 (original ),Dear Prudence, Mr. Moon (Sierra's orginal), Bend down low ( I had never heard them to this before) and Mike's strong ass vocals once again blew me the hell away.  Mike even threw in a song he wrote when he was alittle boy. Last nite 600 Lbs. of sin was ON IT. I watched Josh Thomas play his guitar like I've never seen quite before. Tore it a new ass I might say and my god was I glad I was witness to it. This man alone has MAD guitar skillz and with Pushkins along side of him.... Geez these two the place's they take you musically leave's ya beggin' for more. Sierra's vocals well I can not say enough about this chica.... Her  vocal's speak for themselves. I've said it before and I'll say it again.... 600 LBS. of sin is 'Sinfully delicious' and SCREAMS Festy to me! The more I hear this band the more I can see them outside this summer playin' Festivals.... all of them and the crowd eating them up. Speaking of crowds... Charleston peeps were diggin' it & feelin' it and I loved it. I could not even get near the stage to film at this point. They gave 600 lbs. the respect this band commands with a full dance floor and not one peep in the joint not nodding their head or tappin' their foot. I am a HUGE fan and will support this band forever! I did get one maybe two vid's outta Sin before the dance floor was taken over. But you know what I got to enjoy it and dance alittle myself! It was good.... All good! Thank you Charleston... I will be back!

Didn't know what to expect when I went to go see Red Audio but boys lemme tell ya what! That 3 piece band totally "Shredded my face the fuck off".... Awesome Rock band! Straight up in your face Rock-N-Roll.....
They played 5 sets ( I believe) and I walked in on set 3... right outta the damn gate I was hit with some Zeppelin! Knew right there & then I had to place myself quickly, unload my shit, grab a beer and git to filmin' asap. After that they threw out alittle Motorhead. Covered alittle bit of everything friggin' thing Ac/Dc (Let there be light), Beatles (Abbey Rd.), Billy Idol (Midnite hr.), Beastie Boys (Sabatage), My Morning Jacket, Rage Against the Machine., Black Sabbath & more Zepp. Lead guitarist & vocals kept switchin' from a Real pretty Strat to a Old school "flying V'' guitar. I fuckin' loved it... all of it! Red Audio.... you got anotha' "face shreddin' " fan here.
~ the pleasure was all mine.
